Francesca Santamaria è un’artista attiva nell’ambito delle Performing Arts.
La sua ricerca si concentra sulle logiche prestazionali e, attraverso il corpo in movimento e i suoi limiti, riflette sul concetto di performante.
Si forma come danzatrice al Balletto di Roma e alla Biennale College Danza 2018, dove interpreta le pièce di Marie Chouinard e Daina Ashbee. Come danzatrice dell’ensemble CZD2 danza per Roberto Zappalà, Moritz Ostrushnjak, Amos Ben-Tal e Manfredi Perego e successivamente come freelancer per Alexandra Pirici, Clara Delorme e altrə.
Il suo percorso autoriale comincia nel 2021 con SHIFTING TOOLS, opera di videodanza presentata e premiata in numerosi festival internazionali tra cui Cinedans 2022 (NL), InShadow Festival (PT), Screendance Festival (SE), La Danza in Un Minuto (IT).
Nel 2022 prende parte al percorso di ricerca coreografica triennale Incubatore per futur_ coreograf_ CIMD. Contestualmente consegue una Laurea Magistrale alla Sapienza di Roma in “Scritture e Produzioni dello Spettacolo e dei Media” con una tesi sulla drammaturgia della danza e prende parte a diversi progetti con l’ASAC della Biennale di Venezia dal 2021 al 2023.
Debutta come autrice nel 2024 con il solo COME SOPRAVVIVERE IN CASO DI DANNI PERMANENTI, selezionato alla Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore 2023 in forma di studio e successivamente coprodotto dal festival Operaestate e presentato a B.Motion 2024. All’interno dell’hub milanese lavora all’ideazione e allo sviluppo dell macroprogetto GOOD VIBES ONLY. GOOD VIBES ONLY (beta test) – primo capitolo della trilogia – viene coprodotto dai festival MILANoLTRE, Più che Danza, FDE Festival Danza Estate.  Nel 2025 la creazione è vincitrice di Danza Urbana XL (Network Anticorpi XL) e viene selezionata per la Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore 2025 e per la piattaforma europea Aerowaves #Twenty26. GOOD VIBES ONLY (the great effort), secondo capitolo della trilogia, secondo capitolo della trilogia, prodotto da CODEDUOMO ETS e Perypezye Urbane ETS, coprodotto da Romaeuropa Festival e realizzato in collaborazione con TIR Danza, debutta a Romaeuropa Festival nell’ottobre 2025.
I suoi lavori vengono presentati in numerosi contesti e festival nazionali e internazionali e negli anni collabora con diversə artistə della scena teatrale e performativa tra cui Pietro Angelini, Vittorio Pagani, Alessandro Businaro, UCCI UCCI, FanniBanni’s, Populous, Marta Del Grandi, Andrea Mauti.

Francesca Santamaria is an Italian artist based in Rome, active in the field of performing arts. Her research focuses on performative logics and their implications through an analysis of the moving body and its limits.
She trained as a dancer at Balletto di Roma and Biennale College Danza 2019, where she performed works by Marie Chouinard and Daina Ashbee. As a dancer with the CZD2 ensemble she danced for Roberto Zappalà, Moritz Ostrushnjak, Amos Ben-Tal, and Manfredi Perego, and later as a freelancer for Alexandra Pirici, Clara Delorme and others.
Her authorial journey began in 2021 with SHIFTING TOOLS, a dance film presented and awarded at numerous international festivals including Cinedans 2022 (NL), InShadow Festival (PT), Screendance Festival (SE), and La Danza in Un Minuto (IT).
In 2022 she joined the three-year choreographic research programme Incubator for future choreographers CIMD in Milan, while simultaneously obtaining her MA’s degree in “Writing and Production for Performing Arts and Media” at Sapienza University of Rome, with a thesis on Dance Dramaturgy.
She made her authorial debut in 2024 with the solo COME SOPRAVVIVERE IN CASO DI DANNI PERMANENTI, selected for the Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore 2023 in its work-in-progress version and later co-produced by Operaestate Festival and presented at B.Motion 2024.
Within the Milanese hub she works on the research and development of the large-scale project GOOD VIBES ONLY. GOOD VIBES ONLY (beta test), the first chapter, is co-produced by the festivals MILANoLTRE, Più che Danza, and FDE Festival Danza Estate. In 2025, the creation is selected for Danza Urbana XL – Network Anticorpi XL, Vetrina della giovane danza d’autore 2025 and for the European platform Aerowaves #Twenty26. GOOD VIBES ONLY (the great effort), the second chapter, is produced by CODEDUOMO ETS and Perypezye Urbane ETS, co-produced by Romaeuropa Festival, realized in collaboration with TIR Danza and premiered at the Romaeuropa Festival in October 2025.
Her works have been presented in numerous national and international contexts and festivals and over the years she has collaborated with various artists of the theatre, music and performance scene including Pietro Angelini, Vittorio Pagani,  Alessandro Businaro, UCCI UCCI, Fannibanni’s, Populous, Marta Del Grandi, Andrea Mauti.
